In a message sent to library
customers, Tom Mercer, senior v-p
of digital products for Bibliotheca,
charged that it is “highly probable”
that Amazon is using
its data to suggest to
authors and agents
that libraries are bad
for their retail sales.

Arcadia Publishing has acquired Wildsam,
publisher of the Wildsam Field Guides series. With the
purchase, Wildsam will expand its editorial team and
increase the number of titles to be published in 2020.

The newly expanded Christian Product
Expo attracted nearly 800 participants to
its Aug. 25–27 show in Murfreesboro,
Tenn. CPE was expanded this year to
replace the annual trade show of the
Association of Christian Booksellers, which
folded after its 2018 event.

Baen Books has partnered with audiobook com-
pany RBmedia for an audiobook program. Under
the agreement, the two companies will publish
more than 170 audiobooks over the next three
years, featuring Baen’s science fiction and fantasy titles.

Trade sales rose 3.8% in the
first half of 2019 over the compa-
rable period in 2018, according to
the AAP’s StatShot program. Within
the segment, sales of adult books
rose 1.4%, while sales of children’s/
YA books increased 7.4%. Sales at
religious presses, which AAP puts
in the trade segment, rose 11.4%.
