(avery) #1

on to more successful work in TV.
And Jemma Joyce, the star of To
Know Him – her first TV drama

  • received a North Western RTS
    nomination.

Many of our Deaf producers and
the companies we work with
are committed to finding and
developing Deaf talent. When
making Deaf Funny, for example,
Charlie Swinbourne developed three
emerging writers. We recognise
that short films have powerful
potential to develop new
talent and BSLBT ran the Zoom
scheme with Neath Films, from
which several directors have
joined our talent base, including
Ted Evans, director of our BIFA
-nominated drama, To Know Him.

The pool of
Deaf talent in
TV is growing,
but not nearly fast
enough. Training
opportunities for users of
BSL are still limited and
openings in the industry
are few, while the barriers of
language and culture remain
high. With others we at BSLBT
are working to change this, and
to make sure that Deaf talent
gets the breaks it deserves

  • something from which
    the whole industry
    can benefit.
