BENJAMIN SUTTON 27
DIGITAL ASSISTANT PRODUCER,
BBC STUDIOS
Nominated by: Jonathan Davenport,
digital editor, BBC Studios Comedy
“Benjamin is more integral to
the success of our output than
at least two of my limbs and
most internal organs,” says BBC
Studios’ Jonathan Davenport.
“He can handle anything
that’s thrown at him and he
couples his technical abilities
with an editorial judgement and
passion I’ve not come across in
anyone his age.”
As proof of Benjamin’s comedy
mettle, Davenport recalls the
viral success of a sketch he pro-
duced, satirising Brexiteers.
BBC Studios was asked,
in the interests of balance, to
devise a sketch satirising the
‘remain’ position and release
it within a week.
“That’s a pretty tough ask if
you want the sketch to be any
good but the following day,
Benjamin cast the sketch,
found a location and filmed it,”
says Davenport.
It’s a testament to Benjamin’s
talents that the sketch became
a hit with just under 1 million
views. It featured on the BBC
Brexit podcast, where it made
BBC political editor Laura
Kuenssberg chuckle.
Benjamin joined BBC Studios
from the BBC Comedy junior
producer trainee scheme. His other
notable production/distribution
credits include Susan Calman’s
Mrs. Brightside, a podcast that
reached number one on the iTunes
UK charts, and BBC3’s Quickies, a
new talent sketch strand for social
platforms, which won a Writer’s
Guild Award last year.
