BUILDING BLOCKS OF
PROFITABLE BEEF PRODUCTION
Farmer’s Weekly will be hosting an information day on 30 August for
beef cattle producers at the inaugural Agricultural Research Council
(ARC) Agri Indaba, which will take place on 29 and 30 August 2019
at the ARC Animal Production Campus, Irene, Pretoria.
The theme for the information day is ‘Building blocks of profitable beef production’,
and top speakers from the South African livestock industry will present on topics ranging
from disease management and animal nutrition, to the branding and marketing of beef
in South Africa.
Confirmed speakers include Wessel Lemmer, senior agricultural economist at
Absa AgriBusiness, who will give a brief presentation on the short- to medium-term
economic outlook for red meat in South Africa; Dr Faffa Malan, renowned veterinarian
and manager of the Ruminant Veterinary Association of South Africa (RuVASA), who will
speak on the basics of implementing an animal health strategy for a beef farming operation;
and Dr Ben Greyling, research team manager for Beef Cattle Improvement at the ARC,
who will share information about new developments in the field of performance testing.
