mentorship (2,100-plus low-income
youngsters have participated in
the program), educating parents
to support their daughters’ school
careers (5,000 parents have
graduated from the training), awarding
college scholarships to Latinas,
and providing micro loans to Latinx
business owners ($2 million given to
more than 200 Latina entrepreneurs,
creating some 600 jobs to date).

Producing powerhouse
She’s executive producer of The
Harvest (2010) and Food Chains
(2014), documentary films about
the exploitation of farm workers in
the U.S., most of them Latino and
nearly 500,000 of them migrant
children. She also produced the
documentary short Go, Sebastien,
Go! for ESPN Films, about an
11-year-old Mexican-American boy
who sang the national anthem at
the NBA Finals, and the HBO doc
A Class Apart, about Mexican-
American lawyers from Texas who
argued, and won, a civil rights case
before the Supreme Court.
