Great Destination Weddings

(Grace) #1

the resort itself doesn’t offer a coordinator,
don’t stress – there are wedding coordinators
here in Australia (and all around the world for
that matter) who specialise in creating dream
destination weddings and being a trusty
wingman throughout your journey.

REDOLENT
ROMANCE
It would be super romantic to marry
somewhere you’ve shared special memories
with your partner. Perhaps you can revisit the
place you first met, or where you had your first
holiday together, or that place you’ve both been
wistfully dreaming about that’s on the top of
your bucket list.

THE
A-LISTERS
Weddings closer to home often rack up huge
guest lists, largely due to obligation. But let’s
face it, how many couples invite acquaintances
they won’t ever see again, or distant family
friends just because they feel they have to?
Even if you do invite them, a destination
wedding often creates its own form of natural
attrition, where only your nearest and dearest
will attend. If you’re worried that some of your

close entourage won’t be able to afford travel
costs, give them plenty of notice to save up – or
better still, use it as an excuse to have another
party when you get back home.

FUSION
Some couples get caught in the middle of
tense family feuds about whether the wedding
should be held in the bride’s or groom’s
home town. Hang on, whose wedding is
this? To relieve this type of pressure, choose
somewhere else entirely. Selecting a neutral
location that both families have to travel to
might just be the perfect remedy.

MODEST
MOOLAH
Most Australian venues specialising in
destination weddings offer competitive
packages that include group discounts for
accommodation. That, combined with the fact
flights within the country are so affordable,
means that now is a great time to look at
marrying in one of Australia’s stunning
regions. If you’re travelling to Asia there’s a
good chance you’ll get more bang for your
buck overseas, even though the Aussie dollar

might not be as strong as it has been in recent
years. Alternatively, some of the Pacific’s most
luxurious resorts offer ridiculously affordable
wedding packages – and even include them
free with their accommodation packages.
Ultimately though, it’s often the smaller guest
list limited to close family and friends that
results in the greatest savings. It’s also a good
idea to seek out venues that offer seasonal
discounts or accommodation savings for large
groups, wherever you decide to get married.

MAN-MADE
In most weddings, the bride-to-be plays
the leading role in steering the wedding ship
through stormy moments and challenging
winds of change during the planning stages.
While a groom has certain duties he’ll
traditionally attend to – such as organising
outfits with his group of merry men – that’s
often about the extent of his involvement. If you
want your guy more engaged in the planning
process, throwing a destination wedding
might do the trick. He may be willing to
provide much more input into things like travel
logistics such as transport, accommodation
and sourcing fun activities for the bridal party
to do than you could have possibly entertained
in a traditional game plan. Why? Simply
