Precious cargo:
transporting the gown
The all-impor tant wedding gown is something you want to take care of,
especially when travelling overseas, but this alone can come with its own set of challenges.
We asked some of our favourite bridal designers for their advice.
To have and
to fold
“Remember to pack your veil
at the back of the garment
bag, behind your gown, so
the zip doesn’t snag the
delicate tulle.”

Have a falling out
“Take your gown and veil out
as soon as you arrive to allow
any kinks and creases to
fall out.”

Plastic fantastic
“Pack your gown in plastic
first to protect the fabric,
then wrap it in acid-free
paper before placing it in
a flight box. Check your
airline’s carry-on size
specifications to avoid a
pre-wedding meltdown.”

“It’s a good idea
to have a spare shirt to
change into just before the
ceremony, so if it’s been
a hot and steamy day you can
still look and feel fresh. Also
ensure there’s plenty
of sunscreen around.”

WHAT TO PACK
Staring at your empty suitcase with
trepidation? Keep calm and follow these simple
tips for packing for your beach wedding:
- It’s a beach wedding, so the clue is in the
name: pack light, summery clothing. - Think about exactly what outfits you plan
to wear. Research your destination’s dressing
customs and keep them in mind when packing.
In some destinations, sleeveless clothes are
a no-no, so think ahead to avoid being that
ignorant tourist. - Invest in smart separates and maybe even
some convertible pieces. Leave some extra
space in your suitcase for a few souvenirs. - Oh, who are we kidding? Obviously you’re
going to pack too much (it’s your wedding,
after all), but don’t stress – just check out
excess baggage costs before you head off.
