Norris in fi tness

race for Belgian

Grand Prix after

foot injur y

Lando Norris is facing a race against
time to be fully fi t for this weekend’s
Belgian Grand Prix after the British
teenager sustained a foot injury while
on holiday.
The 19-year-old was seen wearing a
supportive brace on his left leg during
a live video stream as he raced online
on Sunday.
Norris’ McLaren team insists the
protective boot is a “precautionary
measure” and are confi dent he will
race this weekend, but the rookie
admitted to being in pain.
“I have got my leg support on [and]

I am dying,” said Norris, who attended
the Moto GP at Silverstone on Sunday.
“I did so much walking today, and
I am injured. It frickin’ hurts.” Norris
even joked that he would have to wear
the protective boot while racing at Spa-
Francorchamps, the longest, and one
of the most demanding tracks on the
calendar, this weekend. Norris is due
to be back in the car in just four days’
time for practice. The English novice
has been on holiday in Croatia during
Formula One’s summer shutdown,
and McLaren say he infl amed a tendon
while running. PA Media

Wiggins ‘detached’

from the saddle

Sir Bradley Wiggins is taking a degree
in social work as he looks to redefi ne
himself after cycling. The 39-year-
old, who was the fi rst Briton to win
the Tour de France in 2012 and took
Olympic time trial gold only days
later, no longer wants to be defi ned
by his sporting success and is instead
trying to fi nd ways to help people.
“I don’t give a shit about my cycling
career now,” Wiggins told the Big
Issue magazine. “I’m just detached

from it, I don’t want to live off the
back of it. I live off being me and I’m
happy in my own skin.” Ireland’s Sam
Bennett won the third stage of the
Vuelta a España in Alicante, while his
compatriot Nicolas Roche retained
the red jersey after a relatively
straightforward stage. PA Media
