Got Talent: The Champions kicks off five
weeks of international performers.
Two acts per show will make it to the
final but only one can be the champion.
Here judges Simon Cowell, Amanda
Holden, David Walliams and Alesha
Dixon, along with presenters Ant and
Dec, give fans the lowdown.

upon them now. We’ve been through
so much over the years.
Has there been anything that’s
worried you about this series?
The downside of only having five
shows before the final is that we’ve
actually seen some amazing talent get
sent home. If we look at doing this
again I’d like to do more heats and a
couple of semi-finals before the final.
What have you enjoyed the most?
It’s being able to return to Paul Potts
and Connie Talbot and George
Sampson, people like that. When they
are not on screen people can forget
about them but actually they’ve
had worldwide careers thanks to
Britain’s Got Talent.
What changes have you
seen over the years?
When I first started making
these shows everybody
wanted to be a pop star. Now
you’ve got kids going, “I want
to be a magician, a comedian, a
dancer...” It’s gone in a direction I
couldn’t have predicted.

DAVID WALLIAMS
What did you think when Simon said
he wanted to do a Champions show?
I thought: “I’m going to have to change
my holiday plans!”
What do you think makes a champion?
Originality. BGT is often about doing
something you haven’t seen before. I
don’t mean like standing on one leg and
juggling three small cats, but performing
a song in a way we’ve not heard before
or a dance routine put together in a way
we haven’t seen before.
What’s it been like seeing old clips of
Simon from series one?
Well, he looks younger now, which is
curious. I don’t know how he managed it.
Were there any British acts you were
looking forward to seeing again?
Jack Carroll. He’s a brilliant comedian.
So, I was really looking forward to seeing
him again. Ashley I got to know a little
bit. Obviously she’s back with Sully this
time as we’ve sadly lost Pudsey.
Did you enjoy German Alexa
Lauenberger’s dog routine?
Until you have seen eight dogs doing the
conga you’ve never known joy. Everyone
loves dogs, except my mum who prefers
cats but cats can’t do a conga.

WHEN Britain’s Got Talent launched
13 years ago, few people would have
predicted it would spawn 71 copycat
versions around the globe.
Now it’s time to see how some of the
UK’s best-loved acts compare with the
rest of the world’s most talented enter-
tainers – and it promises to be a treat.

SIMON COWELL
Have all the judges performed well?
Alesha [who is pregnant] has been
amazing! She could have been putting
her feet up but came to work instead.
Amanda has been with us right from
the beginning and she’s been the most
loyal, easy to work with person that
we’ve ever had. No drama, no
demands, she just turns up, does her
thing, loves the acts and is a great
ambassador for the show.
And David is David! He just loves
being the centre of attention. He’s like
all comics, you know, they
live for that attention.
You’ll never ever
change him. As
annoying as he is, if
he wasn’t there, I
think you’d miss him.
And the
presenters?
I love having the lads
on the show, Ant and
Dec are like my younger
brothers, that’s how I look
