Peters said: “It’s getting

only one thing to fix
this situation: a

It said yesterday:
“Operations will

A THIRD tremor in six days
has been felt near Britain’s
only active fracking site.
The 2.9-scale event near
Blackpool was the biggest ever
at the Cuadrilla site and was
strong enough to be felt
by some residents.
Operations were
suspended after a
previous record
2.1 tremor hit the
Lancashire site on
Saturday – topping
the 1.55 record set
there last Wednesday.
Ye s t e r d a y ’s

depth hit at 8.30am, the British
Geological Survey reported.

RURAL areas will bid for a
share of £30million as part
of a UK-wide contest to
spark a tech revolution in
countryside communities.
Up to 10 rural locations
will be chosen to run trials
and stimulate commercial
investment in 5G.
It offers mobile speeds of
10 to 20 times faster than
past network generations.
The Rural Connected
Communities competition
is part of £200million
funding to pioneer 5G test
beds.
Digital Secretary Nicky
Morgan said: “We’re
making sure our rural
communities aren’t left
behind in the digital age.”
The technology is
already being used in the
Orkney Islands to remotely
monitor salmon fisheries.

OVER half of people tackle
potentially dangerous DIY
jobs that home insurance
might not cover in the
event of a disaster.
Some 29% of home-
owners do plumbing, 24%
tackle electrics and 13%
boilers and heating.
Only 43% hire trades-
people, with the rest doing
it themselves or relying on
friends and family to help.
But price comparison
site GoCompare, which
did the study, said home
insurance claims for dodgy
DIY work may be refused.
GoCompare’s Ryan Fult-
horpe added: “Policies do
not cover poor workman-
ship or faulty materials.
“Claims for damage due
to work you’re not quali-
fied to do can be rejected.”
