MITSUBISHI ASX On sale September
from £20,000
Mitsubishi’s ASX is the firm’s third biggest seller
with an incredible 1.36 million sales globally
since 2010. These latest changes to the ASX
have given it a new look at the front and rear, a
new interior and plenty of changes underneath
the skin too.
A 150bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine replaces the
old 1.6, while there are also four-wheel drive and
CVT automatic versions. The new ASX will come
in Design and Dynamic trim levels with Apple
Carplay and Android Auto, heated front seats,
a rear view camera, climate control and 18in
alloy wheels as standard on all models.
PEUGEOT 208 On sale December
from £15,000
We don’t mind admitting it, but we’re more than a
little bit excited about the arrival of this new Peugeot
- Wider, longer and lower than the outgoing
supermini from the French firm, this new 208 will
be available with traditional petrol or diesel engine
options or with a 50kW battery in e208 electric form.
We’ve seen electric superminis before, of course,
but not as the same car available with three
different choices of motor. Even better, the Peugeot
looks superb inside and out with a fantastic interior
and dashboard that’s more akin to the 508 saloon
than a humble supermini. It’s early days, but we
reckon this 208 could end up being one of the
leaders in its class.
We’re more than
a little bit excited
about the arrival

VAUXHALL ASTRA On sale now
from £18,885
No, we’re not kidding, this really is the new Vauxhall
Astra. As facelifts go, this is a pretty mild one on the
surface with the majority of the changes going on
under the skin.
There’s a host of new petrol and diesel engines
- the former being all three-cylinder turbo units with
110bhp, 130bhp or 145bhp. There are two diesel
options, which are also three-cylinder turbos with
105bhp or 122bhp. Vauxhall is also promising new
interior technology with wireless mobile charging
and a Bose stereo plus a heated front windscreen.
RENAULT CAPTUR On sale now
from £16,500
Since the Renault Captur’s original launch in
2013, the French firm has seen more than 1.2
million leave its showrooms making it the best-
selling car in its class in Europe. This second-
generation Captur is sure to build on that success
with notable changes to its looks both inside and
out giving it a more muscular look, which we love.
The stunning new interior has more space for
occupants and a better-quality feel. There’s a
floating centre console and a large touchscreen.
As well as a wide choice of petrol and diesel
engines, the new Captur will also boast a plug-in
hybrid version from 2020 capable of driving up
to 28 miles in pure electric mode.
MAZDA 3 SKYACTIV X On sale October
from £23,555
A new Mazda 3 engine isn’t usually something
to get excited about, but this new Skyactiv-X
model is no ordinary engine. The X is the latest
in Mazda’s Skyactiv engine technology and
effectively enables a petrol engine to have the
same low emissions and frugality of a diesel
engine starting from just 52.3mpg and 96g/km.
Also linked to a mild-hybrid system,
Skyactiv-X is the kind of engine technology
other manufacturers are expected to follow.
Other changes to the Mazda 3 range include a
new saloon joining the line-up and four-wheel
drive available for the first time since the 323.
