WEEKEND
Plan AheadNoteworthy events over the next few weeks
Sept. 28 Audra
McDonald
Soprano Audra McDonald is so
close to EGOT status: All she
needs is an Oscar to go along
with her Emmy, two Grammys
and six Tonys. The much-lauded
actress and singer, who was
bestowed with the National
Medal of Arts in 2015 by
President Barack Obama,
makes her first appearance at
George Mason University’s
Center for the Arts, where she
will sing Broadway hits and
American standards
accompanied by a three-piece
musical ensemble. 8 :30 p.m.
George Mason University Center
for the Arts, 44 00 University Dr.,
Fairfax. cfa.gmu.edu. $50-$100.
Sept. 28 ‘Peppa Pig
Live! Peppa’s Adventure’
Let little ones skip nap time in
favor of an afternoon with life-
size “Peppa Pig” characters. The
popular British animated
children’s series is reimagined
as a musical theater live show
with puppets and costumed
characters. In this new
performance, called “Peppa
Pig’s Adventure,” kids can sing
along with Peppa and her
friends, Pedro Pony, Suzy Sheep
and Gerald Giraffe, as they head
off into the woods on a camping
trip. Noon and 3:30 p.m. Warner
Theatre, 51 3 13th St. NW.
warnertheatredc.com. $33-$53.
Oct. 11 ‘The Price Is
Right Live’
If you think you’d be pretty good
at Plinko, put your money where
your mouth is when “The Price Is
Right Live” makes a stop for
multiple shows at the Theater at
MGM National Harbor. The
traveling version (which does not
include TV host Drew Carey) of
the long-running daytime game
show will invite D.C.-area
residents to “come on down”
and test their consumer smarts
to win prizes and cash.
Registration for competitors
takes place at the venue starting
three hours before showtime.
Through Oct. 13. Various times.
MGM National Harbor, 101 MGM
National Ave., Oxon Hill.
priceisrightlive.com. $35-$60.
Oct. 12 Snallygaster
This beloved D.C. beer festival
serves only the “craftiest” of craft
beers, and for its eighth year,
things are getting streamlined.
Instead of the drink tickets of the
past, a flat admission fee covers
unlimited beer and wine tastings.
Choose from approximately
400 brews selected by beer
director Greg Engert, who
maintains the lists at ChurchKey,
Bluejacket and other
Neighborhood Restaurant Group
outposts. VIP ticket holders get
access to Snallygaster two hours
before the gates open for general
admission, for those who want to
get to the rare beers first. 2 to
6 p.m.; VIP access begins at noon.
Pennsylvania Avenue between
Third and Sixth streets NW.
snallygasterdc.com. $50 general
admission; $100 VIP.
