eptember 1 is
extra-special this
year. Not only is
it the first day of
spring (hallelujah!),
but it’s also Father’s Day.
That’s twice the reason to
celebrate in my book.
This week we put the
spotlight on doting dads.
Whether he’s a classic bloke,
a metro male, a playful pop
or a funky fella, we have
loads of fresh gift ideas
(page 48). But if the way
to your man’s heart is
through his belly, check
out our hearty BBQ feast
recipes (page 38).
Wellness columnist
Gemma McCaw (page 57)
suggests some simple and
heartfelt ways to show you
care. A handwritten note,
making a date or telling
your dad “I love you” can
make his day.
You’ll enjoy seeing media
stars Guy Williams, Matt
Chisholm, Ben Barrington
and Flynny get sentimental
about fatherhood (page 18)

  • the importance and delight
    of the father-child bond is
    apparent with all of them.
    The story that really
    struck me this week was
    singer Ladi6’s honest
    account of growing up with
    a violent father (page 24).
    Today, her beloved dad Vic
    is a changed man – and he’s
    an inspiration. It took years
for him to turn a corner, but

he did. Now he runs the
charity Safe Man Safe Family,
which is dedicated to helping
other domestic abusers turn
their lives around.
Ladi6 signed up to
Celebrity Treasure Island,
which launches this week,
so she could try and win
money to support her dad’s
charity. Good luck Ladi!
I’ve had a sneak peek at
Celebrity Treasure Island and
I don’t want to spoil anything
for you, but it is soooo good!
The show’s exhilarating – but
it’s also funny. I’m rooting
for my hilarious buddy Jodie
Rimmer. Our families met
camping in Coromandel and
I know she’ll be an awesome
castaway to be stuck on an
island with. My kids will
also vouch that she’s the
meanest Manhunt player,
so I reckon she’ll
be sniffing out
that treasure in
no time.
Have a great
week, guys!

“Oh honey, you make me sound
like a terrible person when you
recount events so accurately.”
