Dormane won the Dubai
Stakes and another five
major races, and Djelfor
won five stakes in France
as a three-year-old. Both
have sired numerous
winners and breeding
sons, with Dormane, a
national sire since 1989,
having the advantage
since he lived much longer.
Djelfor was also a national
sire, but died in 1999, only
15 years old. Nevertheless
he sired a huge number of
sons, the most famous of
which was Akbar 1990
(x Fantasia), exported to
the Emirates. Unlike
Djelfor, Akbar lived to a
good old age, was actively
breeding mares when he
was well over 20, and
sired a large number of
sons that are still
breeding.
Dormane, who was out
of a half Polish dam with
two additional crosses to
Denouste, also lived to a
good age and was still
siring foals in his late
twenties. Dormane is the
