truthful, the least attractive
Arabian I have ever seen, but he
appears to have done a very good
job at Tersk. Besides several race
winners, he also sired the very
handsome stallion Nonius 2001 (x
Nakhodka), one of the current
chief sires. the dark bay Barour de Cardonne
1992 (x Pistache de Cassou), also
one of the leading sires of
racehorses in Europe. His best-
known sons include Nil Bedouin
1999 (x Nil Tahani) in Switzerland
and Love Me Tender 1999 (x Gran)
in Holland. Manganate’s perhaps
most handsome son, Pavot al
Maury 1988 (x Pella de la Coste)
was used in Britain, Djel Bon 1990
(x Djebella II) in the UAE, Makzan
1991 (x Miss Dior) in Qatar, Nivour
de Cardonne 1995 (x Pistache du

Manganate sons are found all
over the world. One of the best
known in Europe is the liver
chestnut Marwan 1994 (x Marifa),
a three-quarter brother to
Dormane, who was first sold to
Germany and then to Holland. He
became the successor of his
relative Drakon as the leading
racehorse sire in Germany.
Marwan himself won 17 races; his
son Mythos 2001 (x Isy) was most
successful German racehorse for
several successive years and was
licensed in 2009 with premium
status. Many of Marwan’s get
raced successfully, and in some
cases also compete in endurance,
including Mythos’s full brother
Mefisto (2004).
