Arabian Horse World – August 2019

(sharon) #1

France Des Chevauz Arabas for three-year-olds at
a mile.
Meethag (Dahor de Brugere x Al Nachmiya by
Azadi) finished a nose in front of Al Hazm (Al Mamun
Monlau x Al Anood by Amer) in the field of nine.
Meethag gave young sire Dahor de Brugere his first
group winner.
A filly owned by Al Shaqab Racing, Meethag, had
her second start, and stakes debut in the $56,500
Qatar Coupe De France, having won her debut at
Toulouse on June 1. She was one of three fillies in the
field. Ridden by Jerome Cabre for trainer Thomas
Fourcy, Meethag raced in fourth for the first half of
the race, tracking pacesetter Al Hazm.
In the stretch, Cabre moved Meethag to the
outside and trailed Al Hazm by about two lengths.
There was still a length between them with 100
meters to go before Meethag caught Al Hazm at the
wire. The only stride Meethag was in front was the
final one.
“I’ve always had a great liking for the filly,” Fourcy
told the press. “She hasn’t had much time between
races, but when they are good, they are good.
“Cabre rode to orders, and he did well to anchor
the filly during the race. The filly managed to win
despite the race not being run to suit her. When you
are required to reel-in horses in front of you at
Chantilly, class and a very sharp turn of foot
are needed.
“It’s my first success in this race, and I’m also very
pleased for Al Shaqab as they bred the filly. We are
well-stocked in the year in regard to quality three-
year-old fillies and they encouraged me to try for this
race with this filly.”
Al Hazm, who was unlucky to lose, finished a length
in front of the filly Salma Nour Grine Mor (No Risk Al
Maury x Salimat Boussafi by Visir de Ruspina). Salma
Nour Grine Mor previously raced in Morocco where
she was a five-time winner.
Fourcy said the Group 1 Qatar Arabian Trophy Des
Pouliches for three-year-old fillies at Saint-Cloud
Racecourse in Paris on October 4 is a long-range
goal for Meethag.
