AT THE WATERHOLE
WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE WORLD OF ARABIAN HORSES
Just before Region 2, Sandhu Arabians hosted a
two-day local outreach event which included the
second meeting for the Arabian Breeders
Cooperative. The event was well attended with visitors
from all over and many locals. Dr. Sandhu provided a
DJ for entertainment along with lots of food and drink.
Part of the entertainment was a presentation of
mares and foals and the two queens of Sandhu
Arabians’ breeding program. Erylle Meia Lua put on
quite a show with Dr. Sandhu, and then Nadira of
Rohan was presented, after which guests were invited
SANDHU ARABIANS AND ARABIAN BREEDERS COOPERATIVE EVENT
to come up and meet her. Nadira accepted the
attention quietly and regally, like the queen she is.
The second morning, an ABC meeting was held
with lots of lively discussion about ideas for programs
moving forward. TV programs and a gelding program
were the hot topics of the day, and there are projects
in the works for both. Additionally, lots of people
were intrigued by the development of the website
http://www.arabianbreederscooperative.com, which will allow
members access to each other’s horses, services and
items for sale, and will also include a comprehensive
user’s guide to information on feeding,
breeding, care, contracts, and many other
areas of our Industry. Also discussed was a
stallion services exchange so that perhaps
breeders would be able to access a wider
range of horses.
LINDA MANWILLER
MYERSTOWN,PENNSYLVANIA
I first came across Arabian Horse World in 1963 when a
fellow student who owned an Arabian loaned me a copy.
I’ve been subscribing ever since. I have been a horse
lover since I can remember. I began to hone in on the
Arabian as THE horse of choice in elementary school,
spurred on by my reading The Black Stallion. For several
years, the Morgan was a close second and my
sister and I would go to both breeds’ shows.
I do not own any horses now, but I did have a
Raffles-bred gelding, a Polish/domestic mare
and her filly by an
El Paso son. The barn where
I boarded was filled with many breeds — Arabs,
Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Tennessee
Walkers, Dutch Warmbloods, ponies, grades,
and a genuine off-the-range mustang! Such
an array of equine personalities made me
really appreciate the Arabian.
I have been a member of both the now-defunct
Tri-County Arabian Club and the Pennsylvania Arabian
Horse Association for about 50 years and have attended
25 conventions as a club delegate. Unfortunately, as
caregiver to an ailing parent, I have had to curtail most of
my horse activities for the past few years.
I always appreciated Arabian Horse World’s “history”
stories the most, perhaps because I was
a history major in college. When I had to
move from the house I had lived in for 60
years (downsizing dramatically), I knew I
would have to give up my 50-year AHW
hoard. So I started pulling out those
articles. I also like the articles on artists
and the Arabian horse.
I certainly expect to continue my love
for and interest in the Arabian horse for
many years to come!
