I am so glad I drove up to the Region 12 show
Friday night to support the Region 12 Egyptian
Championships. I have loved the idea of it the
last two years, but seeing is believing. This
is a fabulous show with classes for straight
Egyptians, horses with Egyptian sires or dams
called ‘Egyptian Heritage’ classes, and a ‘World
Class’ division for horses with at least one
straight Egyptian in last four generations of their
pedigree. And it’s all topped off with $20,000 in
prize money and gorgeous Arabian breast collars
and roses for the champions! Beautiful red tents
were set up around the side of the ring with
tables with white cloths and flowers, mimosas,
coffee and breakfast served, winners were
photographed against beautiful Egyptian pillars.
“It was beautiful and inviting. People
gathered at the tents and tables, almost
standing room only at times, to watch the show
— even if they didn’t have a horse of their own
in the ring. It was a fabulous social gathering,
a show of camaraderie, support for each other
- and jumping in to lend a hand when needed.
No separations by VIP reserved boxes, and
thus, everyone had ringside seats, sharing
stories and experiences, fun, laughter, and
beautiful horses with Egyptian heritage that
we all love so much.
“The best part was hearing from ‘main ring’
halter folks about how much they liked this little show. If they
weren’t showing in the CEC show, it seemed to invite their
curiosity to come see why all the horses and people were
gathered here, and then they stayed and joined us.
“I went home really happy and excited. Our horse shows
are dwindling and they just don’t seem to be the same
as they used to. This show felt inviting to me. Yes, it’s
competition, but we are all here because we fell in love with
the Arabian horse. Let’s celebrate that together and work
together to make our shows more welcoming to new people
and to bring back the folks who have been away for years.
“Thank you to the Region 12 Classic Egyptian Championship
Board, your team of hard workers, all the sponsors, exhibitors
and spectators for a wonderful show ... I can’t wait for next year!
Suzanne Sturgill’s feedback has great meaning to us, and
we are very grateful for her kind words.
And special thanks to Marion “Missy” Head for your
generous support of this show!
