Arabian Horse World – August 2019

few things were
different at Ströhen
this year. To start
with, it’s a special
year: 60 years ago,
in 1959, Rolf Ismer bought his
first Arabian mare, laying the
foundation for what is now the
oldest private Arabian stud in
Germany. Not many Arabian
farms last this long, let alone in
the hands of the same family.
Now run in the third generation
by Rolf Ismer’s grandson, Dr. Nils
Ismer, it is also the biggest
Arabian farm in the country and
one of the most successful,
producing top show winners as
well as genuine all-purpose
riding horses. And once a year,
on the second weekend in July, it
becomes a gathering place for
Arabian breeders from all across
the world.
In keeping with the jubilee, the
welcoming reception and stud
presentation on the Friday
evening before the show included
some special highlights. There
was a free buffet dinner from the
Ismers’ own restaurant to follow
the parade of some of this year’s
finest foals as well as some of
last year’s youngsters. The
parade itself started with a
special presentation of the
stallion Ascot DD (Glorius Apal x
Lady Nina DD), who had been
there on lease the past two
years. After having sired some
outstanding foals, he has now
come to stay. The homebred
