CSI-amchampionships

LAURA JACKSON and Jo
Bamford’s Gloria VI peaked just at
the right time to win the amateur
platinum tour championship.
After warming up in brilliant
style by finishing second in their
two preliminary competitions,
they produced a corner-cutting
round at speed to gain a decisive
win in the final.
Chasing a sharp double clear
set by Polly Shaw and Why Not
Fado in 37 seconds, Laura steered
inside lines and took a stride out to
the last to fire home in 35.48sec.
Laura, previously a successful
top-level eventer who switched to
showjumping a few years ago,
has accumulated an impressive
team and she took the reins of
Gloria, a Goldfever seven-year-old
“She ticks every box as she’s

fast,carefulandscopey,andshe
is a very adjustable and forgiving
ride,” said Laura.
Having braved the wind and
rain to jump double clear in their
preliminary rounds, Annabel
Lomas and Vraiecocotte Berence
(Frenchie) basked in the sunshine
to take the honours in the bronze
tour amateur championship.
Annabel is three years into her
partnership with the 10-year-
old French-bred mare who was
bought from Carl Edwards.
“Frenchie doesn’t normally
like the rain, but she has been so
consistent and reliable all week.
“She always wants to go
forward and we took strides out
between the first two fences and
the last, and she was neat on all
her turns,” said Annabel, who
was having her first major outing
since Chepstow because of her
GCSE exams. H&H

Youngriderchampionships

GEORGIA TAME and Jeff Ten
Halven maintained wonderful
consistency in their three
competitions, and having opened
with a win and a second place,
the pair produced the only double
clear to claim victory in the
under-25 championship.
This final leg proved a stern
test for the 29 starters. Just
two combinations entered the
jump-off but when first-away
James Winter and Garande
suffered a technical elimination
due to a navigational error, the
door was left open for Georgia and
Jeff to maintain their zero score
for the week.
“Jeff is a giant of a horse with
so much stride and scope, but
he can be sharp. It’s quite difficult
to contain him at times, so I
have spent most of the day getting

himtorelax,whichhaspaidoff,”
said Georgia, who is based with
Shane Breen.
Jeff is a relatively new addition
to the Hickstead stable. Shane
first rode the Toulon 10-year-old
at Royal Windsor and here at the
Harthill International, before
Georgia had her first outing
on the Belgian-bred gelding a
week earlier at the BS National
Championships.
Despite being only six weeks
into her partnership with
Bellelulu D’Aubigny, Jasmin Clark
rode the winning round in the
children on horses championship.
Just two riders produced initial
clear rounds and Jasmin secured
an unbeatable target with her
eight-year-old mare, who finished
two seconds ahead of another
relatively new partnership,
Matilda Lanni riding Dream Du
Toultia Z.
