Arms Company, which closed its
doors in 1964, and every Single Action

to an SASS match for a trial by fire.
Our longtime contributor and
friend Denis Prisbrey sadly passed
away this past May. Along with hon-
oring him, we’ve also included one
of his last articles, where he tests
Winchester’s modern Model 1873
saddle-ring carbine within the con-
text of one of the best Westerns ever
made: Kevin Costner’s Open Range.
It’s a prime example of Prisbrey’s
writing talent while reviewing another
iconic gun of the Old West.
And while we’re talking about
Winchesters, Bob “Jayhawker”
Arganbright gives us the rundown on
Cimarron’s new Model 1894 reproduc-
tion in .30-30, and I drop in with a
curious new Henry model chambered
in the classic .38-55 caliber. This gun
combines the Winchester’s famous
brass-framed predecessor with a
Marlin-Model-1893-style receiver to
create a unique side-ejecting, side-
loading Henry lever action.
There’s a lot more in the pages
