JohnRonan,è il primo edificiostrettamenteac-

cademicorealizzatonegli ultimiquarant’anni

all’internodelcampusdell’IIT a Chicago,punto

diriferimentodell’architetturamodernarealiz-

zatosuprogetto urbanistico diLudwig Mies van

derRohe, chenedisegnò anchealcuniedifici.

L’ organizzazionedelprogetto è estremamente

semplice: laforma dell’edificioè ungrandepa-

rallelepipedo all’internodelqualesitrovano due

cortilirettangolari, checonduconolalucenatu-

ralealcentrodell’edificio. Pareti vetrate garan-

tiscono unrapportovisivodirettocon l’esterno.

Alpianosuperiore lospazioperimetrale è la-

sciatovuoto, mentre aulee ufficisonoconcen-

John Ronan,is thefirst strictly academicbuild-

ingto have beenerected withintheuniversity

campusof theIIT in Chicago,whichis a point of

reference for modernarchitecture, laidoutto an

urbandesignby LudwigMies van derRohe and

dotted with buildingsby the samearchitect. The

organizationof theproject is extremelysimple:

theshapeof thebuildingis a large rectangle in

whichareset two rectangularcourtyardsthat

channelnatural light into thecentre of thebuild-

ing. Large expansesof glass ensurea direct visu-

al relationshipwiththeoutside. At theupper

floortheexternalspace hasbeenleft empty,

whilelecture hallsandofficesareconcentrated

around the courtyards.

AS A TRIBUTETO THEGENIUSOF LEONARDO,

on 14 and 15 September, Milan’s Sforza Castle

will be the venue for the fourth edition of the

Drawing Festivalorganised by Fabriano (Fedri-

goni Group). Thefestival will includeover 300

meetings and workshops, in which adults and

children will be able to try their handsat differ-

ent drawingtechniques in the spaces of muse-

ums, libraries, schools, together with artists,

cartoonists, illustrators, calligraphers. Thefes-

tival will travel aroundItaly until 20 October.
