LA HILL HOUSEDI CHARLES RENNIE MACKINTOSH (1902) è considerata uno

deicapolavoridell’architetturascozzese.Dopooltrecentoannidivitalacasaverrà

sottoposta a un restauro che si prevede durerà addirittura 15 anni. Per evitare di

chiudere al pubblico così a lungo questo bene architettonico, lo studio Carmody

Groarke ha ideato una scatola di maglia metallica protettiva che “ingabbia” la villa

e sostiene una passerella soprelevata, su cui si muovono i visitatori. In questo

modo le fragili pareti di pietra arenaria locale saranno nel frattempo riparate dalle

intemperie e sottoposte alle “cure”necessarie.(AP)

a masterpiece of Scottish architecture.More than 100 years since it was built, the

houseisnowthesubjectofadelicaterestorationproject,whichisexpectedtotake

up to 15 years to complete. To avoid having to close this architectural gem to the

public for such a long time, the Carmody Groarke study has designed a huge pro-

tective shield encasing the house that will contain a raised walkway along which

visitorscan pass. In this way, the house will also be protected from the weather, as

the outer layer of roughcast rendering undergoes the necessarytreatment.

THE THIRD EDITION OF THE CHICAGO Architec-

ture Biennial,which will be held from 19 September

to 5 January, is entitled...And Other Such Stories.

Based on the findings of a wide-ranging investiga-

tive process carried out by 51 artists and architects

from 19 countries, it explores the relationship be-

tween nature, society and the built environment.

Art direction is by Yesomi Umolu (pictured).
