celebre ippodromo di Ascot dove ogni annoa giugno sfilano
cavalli purosangue insieme al meglio dell’aristocrazia inglese.
L’interessanteprogettodellostudioHamish&Lyonssicompo-
nediduecorpi–ampliamentodiunavillaallaqualesonouniti
da una passerella vetrata – che ospitano rispettivamente il li-
ving e una stanza per gli ospiti. I pali d’acciaio su cui si ergono
leduecostruzionirendonol’architetturaleggera,inequilibrio
sull’acquacomeunfunambolosulfilo.L’acquaconilsuo effet-
to rilassante e il suo ritmico sciabordio trasmette un sensodi
calmafortementericercatodaipadronidicasa,genitoridicin-
queragazzidagli8ai15anni.Ilprogettodialogaperfettamente
con la rigogliosa natura circostante e le sue vetrate cielo-terra
lo rendonomutevole a secondadell’ora e delle condizioni cli-
matiche,comeuncamaleonteintentoamimetizzarsi.Proprio
questa capacità di inserirsiin punta di piedi nel contesto ha
consentito di ottenere, dopo un iter lungo tre anni, i permessi
per costruire in quest’area vincolata da severe normeedilizie.

istocracy. The interesting project of the Hamish & Lyons studio
consists of two buildings – formingthe extension of a manor
housetowhichtheyarelinkedbyaglassbridge–thathousethe
livingspaceandaspaceforguestsrespectively.Thesteelpillars
onwhichthetwoconstructionsstandgivealightness to thear-
chitecture,poisedabovethewaterlikeatightropewalkeronthe
wire. The water with its relaxing effect and rhythmic lapping
conveys a sense of calm strongly desired by the owners of the
house, the parents of five children aged between 8 and 15. The
designholdsaperfectdialoguewith theluxuriantsurrounding
vegetation and its floor-to-ceiling sliding glass walls allow it to
changetosuitthetimeofdayandtheweather,likeachameleon
tryingtoblendintothebackground.It waspreciselythisability
totiptoeintothesettingthatallowedittoobtain,afteraprocess
that lasted three years, the planningpermission neededin this
areasubjecttostrictbuildingregulations.
