Shanghai, a formerhotel in the art district knownas the
West Bund Culture Corridor turned into cohousing by AIM
Architecture(itisoneofthefirst experimentsofthiskindin
China).Here theresidentsofthe66lodgings–rangingfrom
one-roomedflats of 33 square meters to three-roomedones
of 127 – have acquired a “turnkey package”: the units are
fully furnished, right downto the smallest detail, with air
conditioningand wi-fi already installed. All the costs of the
services – cleaning, laundry, library, gym and even the
community manager – are charged at the end of the month
in a single bill of “runningexpenses”.
Thus these housing solutions end up generating new forms
of economy and new professional profiles, while specific
digital platforms are being developed to facilitate the pro-
cess of collaboration and simplifythe meeting between de-
mandand supply. There are also cohousing solutions of a
more contained dimension, and they are very widespread.
