volumes that transcend into the outside areas. EarthSwitch Architects

was called in to design this bio-climatic home, which adapts to its natural

energy-efficiency potential. This award-winning architectural practice’s

application of environmentally sustainable building standards and

sustainable design principles guided a contemporary architectural design.

requirements for the architect. They

specifically wanted a self-sustainable home

with large spaces that move effortlessly

into the outside areas. The result is a

stunning bio-climatic home that adapts to its natural

energy-efficiency potential. This allows for maximum

temperature comfort and, of course, energy savings.

The home is modern in its clean lines, natural

tones, kitchen appliances and large windows. Rustic

characteristics have been added to give the home

a calm almost country finish. Entry into the home is

through an impressive wooden door, and these wooden

elements are carried throughout from the staircase

leading upstairs to the kitchen counters and trimmings,

interior doors and exposed wooden trusses.

The high ceilings add extra volume to the already

spacious home. Downlighting is found throughout

ABOVE: LumenEssence specialises in using light to create a

mood in a space. The company worked closely with the client and

architect to find fittings that offered this correct balance of light

and mood. It used the Spazio, K. Light and Dark ranges of lighting

and Legrand plugs and switches to create the desired effect.
