ALL SHAPES AND SIZES
When it comes to the actual shape and size of tiles,
there are two main trends that are making a considerable
appearance: the hexagon tile and the large-format tile.
Explaining this further, Watermeyer says: “The shape,
size and texture of tiles, mosaics and décor play an
important role in defining trends again this year. Ranges
that have multiple sizes, surface finishes and interesting
geometric shapes will feature strongly, as they provide the
ultimate solution both practically and aesthetically.”
Certainly not new but improved in the design of tiles
are the hexagon shapes, says Sachs. He adds: “Both small
mosaic tiles and standard-size hexagon décor tiles are great
for incorporating in the bathroom to create a unique pattern,
like the Dortmund Hexagon and Dortmund Border Hexagon
tiles, which form a honeycomb pattern when laid together.
Other trending tiles that form a pattern are our Torino
Blanco tiles, which form an arabesque pattern.”
From a size perspective, Russell says large-format
wall and floor tiles are making their grand entrance into
the South African tile market, with various finishes being
produced, from marble to screed and even Spanish plaster.
She adds: “The rectified edges of these large-format tiles
allow for an almost butt joint, resulting in a super sleek
transition between tiles, with an almost invisible join,
giving the perception of a seamless finish. The recent
technology of the printing of these tiles mirrors nature,
where you can have the natural look, without the high cost
or maintenance.”
