There are more than a few reasons South African textile and
wallpaper designers are finally getting the recognition they
deserve. Aureum Design’s Nicole Levenberg explains, “Our access
to different forms of contextual inspiration as a direct result of our
location sets our designs apart in terms of content and aesthetic.”
According to Fabric Bank’s Shara Mordt and Michelle Jordaan,
“The craftsmanship and passion for every detail when creating
patterns and decorative elements set us apart from the rest of the
world. These products add a completely unique touch to any space
and become a talking point in the room.”
Love Milo’s Nicki Ellis agrees: “South Africa is finally starting to
define its own look that reflects the country and continent, instead
of repeating what is being done internationally, and is progressing
into a really exciting and colourful space.”
The team at Robin Sprong adds, “What makes us unique is that
South African designers do imperfections so perfectly. There is an
elegant rawness to South African design, which we’ve not seen
anywhere else.”
Skinny laMinx’s Heather Moore says, “Designers from Africa
have a confidence that’s fresh and exciting and brings inspiration
to the rest of the world. Everyone knows that the southern
hemisphere is the future!”
As a country that generally likes to celebrate the beauty of
indoor-outdoor living, being able to incorporate fundamental décor
elements like locally designedtextilesandwallpaper
inspired by nature into ourindoorlivingspaces
enhances this experience.

“What I love most about textiles are the never-ending
possibilities you have to play with colour and
imagery.” – Nicki Ellis
