that doesn’texcite their senses too much,”says Amrita.Frank Leung, founderand principal
ofdesignstudiovia.,concurs.“Coloursshouldinspirebutnotover-stimulate,”hesays.
“Afterall,it’stheirbedroomandtheyneedtosleep.”
Instead,strikea balancebyoptingforsofter,moretimelessshadesforwalls,carpeting,
and furniture.“A careful use of white, a woodenfloor and finish, plus black and white help
neutralisethe multi-coloureditems in the room, such as books and toys,” says Frank. Save
brighthuesforpiecesyoucanswitcharound,suchasbedding,cushions,andwalldécor.
For young childrenwith favouritecartoons,subtletyis key, suggestsMax Lam, founder
and creativedirectorof Max Lam Designs.“Childrengrow fast and their favouritethings
alwayschange,”hesays.“Whatwewoulddois takepartialreferencesofthecharacter
andmakethempartofthedesign.”
Soft and paddedtexturesare practicalinclusions,too. Dutch designerMarcel
Wanderscitesmatelassé,a materialthatinvolvesweavingorstitchingandappearsquilted
orpadded.“Matelasséis a wonderfulmaterial–it’s durable, easy to clean, and feels nice
to the touch,” he says.
Natural materials, on the other hand, lend the room more character. “I like to keep
materials natural and organic, sticking to linens, textured cottons, wool, rattan and wood,”
shares Amrita. “Lighter colours with a play on texture and pattern also create an interesting

Max Lam Designs創辦人兼創意總監Max Lam
建議，如孩子有喜歡的卡通人物，可考慮較含蓄的
做法。他說：「孩子大得快，喜歡的東西也轉得
快。做法是抽取卡通人物部分特徵並融入設計。」
軟墊材質亦是實用選擇。荷蘭設計師Marcel
Wanders提出皺褶皮革「Matelassé」，一種像是
加了襯芯的編織縫製物料。他說：「Matelassé是
種絕佳物料，耐用、易潔、觸感豐富。」天然物料
亦為房間注入個性。Amrita分享：「我喜歡天然和
有機物料，常選用亞麻布、質感棉布、羊毛、藤和
