Archer Hill just east of Cheyenne, Wyo., with 21
covered hoppers in tow on the first day of the
tour, July 8. The freight consist traveled as far
east as North Platte. From there to Omaha,
canteens, backup diesel locomotive, and three
tool/crew cars went east, pausing for the night
in Grand Island, Neb. James Hickey
(^2) Heavy rains in central Nebraska caused
flooding and threatened No. 4014’s eastern
journey. On July 11, the engine passed stand-
ing water at Overton, Neb. Zach Marlow

(^4) No. 4014 crosses the Boyer River bridge on
former Chicago & North Western rails west of
Dunlap, Iowa, on a 14-car July 15 excursion from
Omaha, Neb., to Boone, Iowa. TRAINS: Jim Wrinn
(^5) The July 15 excursion soars across the new
Kate Shelley Bridge located 3 miles west of
Boone, Iowa. The structure is 2,813 feet long
and 190 feet tall over the Des Moines River.
The old bridge is nearest to the camera. Four
passenger cars were dropped upon arrival in
