SCRUM Magazine – September 2019

(Barré) #1
Jonathan Davies
Position: Centre
Club: Scarlets
Age: 31
Another vastly experienced member of the squad,
and the Man of the Series for the British and Irish
Lions on their tour to New Zealand in 2017, Davies
has been hampered with injuries more recently but
looked back to his best at times in the Guinness Six
Nations.
With a full pre-season campaign behind him, the
ex-Clermont Auvergne man should be firing on all
cylinders come the World Cup. He’s one of the best
midfielders in the world, and offers Wales an extra
kicking option with his left boot - a real weapon for
a side that likes to dominate territory.

Liam Williams
Position: Fullback/Wing
Club: Saracens
Age: 28
Liam Williams is a regular favourite of Head Coach
Warren Gatland, and it's not hard to see why. The
Saracens flyer is one of the deadliest finishers in
the northern hemisphere, while his aerial skills rival
those of the best in world. Although he is more
than capable of deputising on the wing, Williams is
most devastating from fullback where his ability on
the counter-attack is liable to cause even the
staunchest of defences havoc. If Wales go deep
into this year's tournament, don't be surprised to
see Williams leading their charge.
