(Barré) #1

ONES TO WATCH

Cheslin Kolbe
Position: Wing/Fullback
Club: Toulouse
Age: 25
He might only have a handful of Test caps, but the
rugby world has been served more than sufficient
notice of Kolbe’s talents, whether in the green and
gold of the Springboks or with Toulouse. He’s got
an abundance of pace and the guile and trickery to
make life difficult for most defenders, particularly in
a one-on-one situation.
The 25-year-old will have to battle for a starting
berth in Japan but could be exactly what the
Springboks need to come off the bench and inject
X-Factor late in games.

Malcolm Marx
Position: Hooker
Club: Lions
Age: 25
A formidable unit at more than 18 stones but with
the mobility of a back-row, Marx has been a
revelation since his arrival on the international
stage in 2016. His importance to the Springbok
cause is underpinned by his Test stats - the
25-year-old having started all but four of his
26 caps to date.
He’ll be a vital part of the side in Japan and will
need to ensure that their set-piece functions at its
best throughout the tournament.
