SCRUM Magazine – September 2019

(Barré) #1
Stuart McInally
Position: Hooker
Club: Edinburgh
Age: 29
Having converted from the back-row in 2013, the
man they call ‘Rambo’ has grown into his new role,
and now he’s a top class operator.
He’s worked hard at the set-piece, ensuring his
scrum and lineout work is comparable to the best
hookers in the European game, while his former life
as a breakaway means he’s an impressive engine

  • his 60m try against England at Twickenham, while
being chased down by Jonny May and Owen Farrell
should be evidence enough of his turn of pace.

Hamish Watson
Position: Back-row
Club: Edinburgh
Age: 27
When Hamish Watson came off the bench for
Scotland against Wales in the 2019 Guinness Six
Nations, he beat more Welsh defenders in a
25-minute cameo than the rest of his team-mates
managed in the entire match.
That is how the abrasive Edinburgh back-row plays
the game - his squat stature means he’s difficult to
stop with ball in hand and equally tricky to shift
from over the ball at the breakdown.
With John Hardie not involved in the Scotland
squad, Watson is odds-on favourite to take the
number seven jersey in Japan.
