F

ashion designer Victoria Beckham has
been hard at work on the launch of her
new beauty collection, Victoria Beckham
Beauty. Although the former Spice Girl is
obsessed with great products, she knows that
true beauty starts on the inside. Using the best

creams and cleansers won’t help if junk food is
the mainstay of your diet. With the publication
of American beauty expert Mandi Nyambi’s
book Fresh Face earlier this month, we take
a look at some of the A-list’s favourite foodie
tricks to achieve great skin...

VEGETABLEJUICE
Rosie says she’s inherited problem
skin from her mother’s side of the
family. ‘On a good day I probably
have just a couple of spots and on
a bad day it can be a lot. I’ve always
had a little bit of acne,’ she says.
When her breakouts are particularly
bad, Rosie tries to limit her intake
of dairy and up her consumption of
fresh fruit and vegetables.
The model swears by
making her own
kale, celery, apple
and cucumber
juice at home,
which she finishes
off with a squeeze
of lemon.
She says this
can really
make all the
difference to
her complexion.

THE EXPERT’S VERDICT:

Superfood UK nutritionist
Shona Wilkinson says: ‘Green
juices are rich in vitamin C and
other antioxidants including
chlorophyll, the substance
that produces the green
pigment in plants. If you
don’t own a juicer, then
just eat lots of green
vegetables.’ As Mandi
Nyambi points
out, Vitamin C is
crucial to great
skin because
it plays an
important role in
the production
of collagen.
Collagen is
thought to
reduce the
effects of
ageing.

The model explains that when she was younger, she
would run home crying everyday because people
would stare at her skin. ‘Suffering from acne, for me,
was debilitating. It’s something that I’ve dealt with
since I was a young teen and has caused me to feel
anxious, helpless and insecure.’ She now eats ‘loads
of fruits, vegetables and lean proteins’, but she
always kicks off the day with a cup of detox tea.

THE EXPERT’S VERDICT: Shona Wilkinson
says: ‘The main appeal of herbal teas is the
detoxing and anti-inflammatory properties
of the ingredients. Key herbs to look out for
are camomile, dandelion root and fennel.’
Dermatologist Dr Renee Snyder explains that herbs
like camomile have long been used to treat problem
skin. She says: ‘Camomile can be used to help
treat rashes and inflammatory skin
conditions. It possesses flavonoids
that have a strong inhibitory
effect on free radicals,’
which in turn are thought
to damage our skin’s DNA
and speed up ageing.

VICTORIABECKHAM
SKINSECRETSALMON
She may boast a radiant complexion
now, but Victoria suffered from acne
in her younger days. She credits a top
skin expert with introducing her to wild
salmon, which has worked wonders.
‘I see a dermatologist in LA, called Dr
Harold Lancer, who is incredible, I’ve
known him for years – he sorted my skin
out. He said to me: “You have to eat
salmon every single day,”’ she said.

THE EXPERT’S VERDICT: Mandi Nyambi
says vitamin E, found in salmon, is crucial
for good skin and top dermatologist
Dr Nicholas Perricone agrees. ‘Salmon
helps keep skin young, supple and
radiant. It is also probably the world’s
most heart healthy source of protein
being rich in long-chain omega-3
essential fatty acids,’ he says.
