FLEABAG LIVE
Created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge

It’s hard to believe it’s only been six years since Phoebe Waller-Bridge first
performed the one-woman Edinburgh show that started it all. When Fleabag
was adapted for TV in 2016, seeing the fierce, messy, complexity of the female
experience told unapologetically onscreen was like an emotional gut punch,
but witnessing the raw intensity of Waller-Bridge performing the original show
live is an experience not to be missed. If, like most people we know, you missed
out on tickets for the short run, good news – the performance is being beamed
into cinemas through National Theatre Live. So, grab your “proper drink” of
G&T in a can and prepare yourself for creative greatness and, of course, that
wonderful reassurance that you’re not “completely fucking alone”.
In cinemas on 12 September

DEEP WATER
Written by Anna Symon

Tension bubbles beneath the surface the moment the camera emerges from
the depths of Lake Windermere to introduce the quiet, small-town setting of
this female-led thriller. DIVA fave and 90s Brookside dykon Anna Friel stars
alongside Rosalind Eleazar and Sinead Keenan, as three women trying to keep
their lives afloat while battling their own individual demons. It may be less
glamorous than its US cousin, Big Little Lies, but money and sex weigh heavily
here, and the sense of foreboding quickly comes to a head, unleashing a wave
of secrets, lies and unresolved feelings. Look out for Faye Marsay’s lesbian
police officer, DC Joanne Aspinall, as she pieces together the truth that stands
to rock the entire community. Read our interview with Faye at divamag.co.uk.

Nicole Haught
Wynonna Earp
Actor Kat Barrell caused quite a stir on
the cover of DIVA last month, making it a
record-breaking issue! Her Purgatory Police
officer Nicole is almost as dedicated to fight-
ing demons as she is to her gf Waverly. With
season four finally confirmed, we’ve got
our hearts set on a #WayHaught wedding.

Maggie Sawyer
Supergirl
An officer with the NYPD Science Police,
Maggie (Floriana Lima)’s first meeting with
Alex Danvers immediately had us hooked,
the pair eventually getting engaged (before
season three broke our hearts). But... she
dates Batwoman in the comics, so maybe
she’ll dust off her badge for Ruby Rose?

Rosa Diaz
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
How excited were we when Stephanie
Beatriz’s badass cop, Rosa Diaz, came out
as bisexual in season five – especially after
the actor herself came out as bi on Twitter!?
Almost as excited as when Cameron
Esposito joined as her love interest, Jocelyn.
Fangirling, us? Never. Let. This. End.

Ava Sharpe
Legends Of Tomorrow
Though her relationship with the Legends
got off to a rocky start, Time Bureau director
Ava (Jes Macallan) is one of our series faves,
thanks to her romance with ex-assassin
Sara Lance (Caity Lotz). With both actors
signed on for season five, let’s hope we’re
in for more sapphic superhero screentime.

Sameen Shaw
Person Of Interest
After one very heated scene (literally
including an iron), Sarah Shahi became a
series regular with the fearless ISA agent-
turned-Machine operative Shaw. Her lack
of emotion defines her until that episode
when she’s “reunited” with her lover, Root
(Amy Acker) – then there’s no holding back.
