Peppermint Magazine – August 2019

(singke) #1

dear peppermint

Dear Peppermint,
I just wanted to say a big thank you for your
Winter 2019 issue – everything inside its
crisp cover felt like it was written just for me
and my interests. All the articles in this issue
were targeting my current thoughts, and the
recipes for cauliflower fritters and DIY soap
were just what I needed! The article on per-
fectionism especially resonated with me, as
it’s something that since having children has
hindered certain aspects of my life. Read-
ing that has somewhat redirected me and
allowed further insight into what I’m feeling.
Good work, Peppermint.

Dear Peppermint,
While I always enjoy reading your feature
stories and finding new voices through you,
I found your recent story on the #memade
movement sparked real joy for me. I have
been a sewer (on and off ) for 20 years,
and the modern movement of makers has
strengthened my personal identity and
helped me understand why I love sewing
and making. The #memade online commu-
nity has been an amazing source of inspira-
tion. Through them I have evolved my love of
sewing with my passion for socially progres-
sive change and found a new identity. We
are all part of many communities, but this
one has had such a strengthening and posi-
tive influence on me. Thank you for sharing
this movement – it was through reading
your feature that I came to realise just how
important this community has been to me.

Dear Peppermint,
Ahh... it was a nice surprise today com-
ing home and seeing a brown paper par-
cel on the bench – yes, my Peppermint
subscription.
I made a cuppa and settled into a com-
fortable chair for a quick browse before
domestic duties called – thinking of what
to have for tea and bringing in the washing.
I’m delighted to see all the new products
and can’t wait for a longer amount of time
to read all the articles.
Thank you for making my day.

My wife Marnie used to be a real magazine
junkie – she could quite happily sit and flick
through the pictures and skim the articles
for hours, but it’s been a while since we’ve
had any in the house.
It just seemed like a bit of a frivolous waste
of resources when we have so many digital
options. But admittedly it’s not the same
experience to curl up with your laptop – as
a bit of a book junkie myself, I don’t get the
same enjoyment out of a Kindle as the real
thing. So she was very happy to find a stack
of @peppermintmagazines at the Fashion
Revolution event we went to a couple of
weeks ago, with a sign saying to take a few
so they could be saved from landfill.
Not only did it give her a good excuse to
indulge in once again flicking through a
magazine and looking at the pretty pictures,
it’s a beautiful magazine with some fascinat-
ing articles and interviews, especially this
edition with one of her favourite people to
follow – @unmaterialgirl – on the cover!

Dear Peppermint,
I just read Issue 40 of Peppermint magazine

  • I hadn’t bought one for a while and, well,
it was like reuniting with a lost friend. I love
the arty layout of the magazine. You cer-
tainly celebrate art and creative pursuits.
I particularly enjoyed the feature on actress
    Isabel Lucas, which provided detailed
insights into the demands of the acting field.
Lucas has landed on the world stage and is
determined to use her status to give pub-
licity to a range of causes. So many of our
actors have made it big in Hollywood and
it’s great to see that they remain passionate
    about social and environmental issues.
Peppermint is different to other magazines:
it’s a keepsake. I have this issue tucked
under my pillow; it will give me lots of sweet
    reading.

Dear Peppermint,
Thank you @peppermintmagazine for a
truly inspirational night connecting with
courageous and passionate people who
are enacting powerful positive change. It
was a privilege to attend the #Melbourne
#pmpeptalks and hear from the extraordi-
nary souls behind @_tsuno_ @jimmy_half-
cut and @hersound_herstory.
The energy in the room was palpable. Thank
you for giving a voice and a platform to
those who don’t just #believeinbetter but
are committed to creating a vital shift in our
minds, hearts and actions.
