Wandering around the Noosa Farmers Market on a Sunday morning
with Matt Golinski, it becomes abundantly clear he’s a well-known
- and well-liked – local personality. The former Ready Steady Cook
celebrity chef may be famous for his cooking prowess (and, in recent
years, the tragic house fire that forever changed his life), but here
between the artisan food stalls and shady gum trees he’s among
old friends. A former stallholder himself, Matt knows the growers
and farmers from the Noosa region well, and he organises weekend
catch-ups in between telling me the background stories of several
vendors. “Deano and his cousin Mason are Piggy In The Middle.
They’re out at Kilkivan, and they follow the Joel Salatin philosophy
of rotating animals around the farm,” he says. “The farm they bought
was an old olive farm, and I know what the quality of the property
was like before. It’s amazing to see the way it’s changed in the four
years these guys have had it, just by looking after the land, moving
