NZ Hot Rod – September 2019

(Barré) #1

as he did the bulk of the work. After a year of sorting and
working on the Pop it was time to take it to the strip.
The first time I raced it was at Tokoroa, I must admit
was very nervous and wasn’t sure how it would all go. I
still remember the horrible feeling of wanting to throw
up going down the strip but after a couple of races that
feeling disappeared and I was well and truly hooked.
After racing a couple of seasons at Tokoroa and Meremere
I blew the motor. It was such disappointment but knew the
Pop had done many years of racing before me. All we saved
from old engine was heads and crank but luckily Stu had a
spare block for us. After getting it home we decided if we were
going to rebuild fresh engine lets add a blower! We were very
lucky because I’d been talking to Karen Raggett (Hay) and she
mentioned that her dad might be interested in helping us out.
After a few phone calls Lindsay was onto it and very helpful. He
was quick to notice what needed doing and built us an awesome
engine. Anyone who knows Lindsay knows he is very skilled.
