NZ Hot Rod – September 2019

which were needed for the project.
The “rebuilt” motor was junk, but
fortunately, a good friend had a
freshly rebuilt banger available. Scott
scored a goldmine of genuine speed
parts locally to dress it up. They
inspected the trans and installed
a V8 clutch. A genuine Halibrand
1 01 magnesium quick-change was
located, machined, polished and

installed. Several trips were made
to the plater for even more shiny
stuff. The traditional American
Thanksgiving holiday was spent in
the shop: No turkey and stuffing for
Scott but his family understood.
The New Year rolled around, and
finally, with the car back together,
itwasloaded onthetrailerto head
west to the GNRS. They made the

show, and the rest is history. More
recently, in June, we spotted the
car on Swillco’s vendor stand at
Back to the Fifties event in St Paul,
Minnesota. We were drawn in
by it’s cool X-factor and panache.
The woody is a traditional hot
rod yet still has one foot in the
restored camp. Whatever way
you look at it, this is one very
desirable car, and it’s for sale.
