> 28 The Hamilton Hot Rod Club 60th
Anniversary.Back in 1959, a group of Hamilton teenagers
decided to form a hot rod club. Auckland Hot Rod Club had
just been formed, so Barry Westmore, Vern Wilson, Bob
Comer, Don Roy, Brian Thexton and Peter Olsen met one
Sunday and formed the second hot rod club in New Zealand.
They had their first meeting at Brian Thextons’ parents’ house.
A tag-along 13-year-old kid who liked old cars also turned
up. His name was Graham ‘Cub’ Roberts. Graham is still a
member of Hamilton Hot Rob Club today. If you have the time
to celebrate with us on 28th September, please make contact
with us. We have a little rod run planned for part of the day.
In the evening we’re meeting at the Classic Car Museum in
Frankton for a get together to remember those friendships and
the clubs’ journey through 60 years. We’re also looking for
any old pictures of the early years of HHRC and those stories
that still make you laugh or cry some 60 years on. Come and
tell us those stories in person; we’d love to hear from you.
