Scale Aviation Modeller International – September 2019

(Elle) #1

Across the Pond!

T

he SAM team, having
returned from another
successful the IPMS US
Nationals, are again amazed
and energised by the continued
popularity and growth of this
hobby we love so much! The
Chattanooga show has once
again been a huge success, and
we are indeed proud to be part
of it, and we ofer our heartfelt
congratulations to the organisers,
and we are already looking
forward to the 2020 show! Indeed,
we have in this issue the irst
printed report from the show,
which Editor David Francis has
compiled, photographed and
sent over to SAM HQ direct from
Chattanooga in record time, so
we can exclusively reveal some
of the highlights of the event!
David and our Associate Editor
Tim Upson-Smith always have

their inger on the modelling
pulse with news and views from
around the world being gathered,
disseminated and presented in
our unrivalled monthly news
coverage. Obviously we cannot,
nor do we try to compete with the
juggernaut that is the Internet,
but rather we look to compliment
this in print, a format that many
modellers still rely on, and indeed
enjoy, and is, despite all that is
available ‘on-line’ is still growing
in popularity. This month, being
the September issue, we can also
relect on the ‘Battle of Britain’,
and our cover features a Heinkel
He.111, one of the Luftwafe’s
most recognisable bombers of
that time, perused, with a laming
engine by an RAF Hurricane.
Also, and following on from
the July 2019 issue, where we
featured the F-4 Phantom over

Vietnam, we look at the other
side of the coin with a North
Vietnamese MiG-21 from Floyd
S Werner. Also have an aircraft
from another conlict with Barry
K Barry Koervers splendid Israeli
Mirage IIICJ. So, I hope you enjoy
this issue of SAMI, and our news
coverage from across the pond!
