Mirage IIIc

First look at Mark One Models 1/144 Mirage IIIc

H

ow many readers
remember “ The
Aeronauts” this French
language TV series dubbed
into English was a regular on
kids TV in the 1970s and I am
sure many were fascinated by
the futuristic and seemingly
invincible delta wing ighter that
were the real stars of the show.
Now Mark One Models have
released a new tool kit in 1/144
scale and as is normal they have
produced several boxings with
a great selection of markings.
On opening the box you will
ind two sprue of grey plastic
which supplies enough parts for
one model, though you do have
two fuselages and a number of
optional parts for other versions.
The plastic features engraved

panel lines, but in this scale
the engraving is too deep and
wide so I would suggest that
you ill the engraved lines with
primer or in my case my faithful
typewriter correction luid.
Underwing you are supplied
with a pair of drop tanks
as well as A representation
of the AIM-9 Sidewinder
and Magic 530 missile.
The boxing we received is
for the classic C version and
includes markings for three

French aircraft and one Swiss.

  • AMD Mirage IIIC, No.24, 5-OG,
    Escadron de Chasse 2/5 “Lle-
    de-France, Orange-Caritat
    AFB, France, 1967. This aircraft
is inished in an overall natural
    metal inish, THE decals supply
all the red trim around the
    Intakes and behind the cockpit.

  • AMD Mirage IIIC, No.30, 110-
    RE, Escadron de Chasse 2/10
    “Seine”,Criel AFB, 1979. This
option is in Mirage blue with
    Aluminium lower surfaces.

    • AMD Mirage IIIC, No.27, 3-10
      LE, Escadron de Chasse 3/10
      ‘Vexin”, Air base 188 Djibouti,
1980. This is a sand and brown
      over blue scheme used for
      French operations over Chad.

    • AMD Mirage IIIC, GRD
      Armament Services Group,
      Swiss Air Force, Emmen
      AFB,1973. Probably the most
      colourful Mirage in a yellow
      and orange sunburst scheme
      with a large sunlower on
      the lower wing surfaces.
      The decals are well printed
      but the French roundels
      were printed slightly out
of register, but Mark 1 have
      included a small replacement
      sheet which is perfect.
      I mentioned that there
      are a number of other
      boxings released by Mark
One at the same time as the
      MIRAGE IIIC, they are.

    • AMD Mirage IIIE/EE/R/
      Mirage 5BA France, Spain,
      Switzerland, Belgium,
      Kit number 144101

    • AMD Mirage IIIO/EP/RZ/
      Mirage 5AD. South Africa,
      Australia, Pakistan, U.A.E,
      Kit Number 144102

    • AMD Mirage IIICJ/CZ,
      Israel, Argentina, South
      Africa. Kit number 14493

CONCLUSION
If you want a Mirage IIIC in
144th scale this is the best
option and even better by
the interesting selection of
camoulage schemes included
in the box though for fans of ‘
The Aeronauts’ there can only
be one option. A Mirage looks
so right in all over natural
metal with French markings.
Our thanks to Mark
One for the review sample
which in the UK can be
obtained from Hannants.
