Scale Aviation Modeller International – September 2019

(Elle) #1

many decals on this version – just two
red stencils on the wing and some red and
white circles on the starboard side of the
fuselage behind the cockpit. Special Hobby
also provide some grey titles and lines
that go around the fuselage in the cockpit
area. After they were dry I sealed them in
with another Gloss coat. Next, I masked
of the control surfaces and the panel in
front of the windscreen and gave them a
light coat of the Matt, again to add some
diference to the natural metal inish.

FINAL BITS

In the meantime I constructed the propeller.
This needs some attention as the blades
are separate, but it is nothing that cannot
be overcome. I primed it black, and after
masking the backs of the blades, painted
it with the AK Polished Aluminium, and
applied their decals. Surprisingly, the scissor
links are done as separate items, and are
a bit too big. As the unpainted version of

the Messerschmitt had no undercarriage
covers installed I made the characteristically
looped brake lines from thin wire. The
wheel hubs were painted black and pin-
washed in grey, to create some shadows. The
tyres were painted Tamiya Rubber Black.
Finally, I glued the tail skid, reinforcing it
with a piece of thin wire. I then installed
the propeller and the long pitot probe on
the port wing tip made from a piece of
hypodermic needle, and I then added a bit of
exhaust stains and the model was inished.

CONCLUSION
I must admit that constructing this little
gem was a pure pleasure to me. I think I
mentioned all the diiculties that can be
encountered while assembling this model,
and, taking into account that this is the
short run kit, I am sure these can be easily
overcome, even by a beginner. Thanks to
Special Hobby for the review sample.
