I

’ve heard some fantastic
reviews of the irst of
Eduard’s new tooled
Tempest kits, and some
amazing reviews of the Series
1 aircraft. The kit is beautifully
moulded with ine panel
lines and raise rivet detail
on the fuselage. The kit also
has a few choices in the box
for rockets, fuel tanks plus
six marking options. There
were a few issues with my kit
unfortunately though, the irst
being a strange overcoating
in mould release agent. The
other issues were damaged
and missing parts such as the
canopy, which had shattered in
transit and propeller spinners
were missing. I do need to
send a massive thank you to
Petra at Eduard who promptly
sent me replacements in
order to complete the review.
Construction is started with
the cockpit and there is some
nice coloured etch to detail this
area. I did have a mission to
ix the cockpit framing for the
sides (parts D17 and D4 in the
manual), they were extremely
fragile and had all broken into
multiple pieces and required
plenty of patience and efort
to ix. The cockpit was painted
Interior Green and controls
Matt Black and etch was used
for the control panel and seat
belts. Once this was complete
the engine intake needed
building, care must be taken to
the instructions with diferent
options for the aircraft your
building. Once the intake was
complete, I placed it in-between

the fuselage halves
with the cockpit
and closed it all up.
The wings were
next, with a multi-
part assembly of the
undercarriage bay and some
really nicely itting parts,
which were completely let down
by the poor design of the wing
construction. The join line of
how the upper and lower wings
attached to each other on the
forward-facing area is a poor
it and the rear is even worse,
with a join line going straight
through the landing laps. You

end up with
this ridiculous
seam right
through the middle of the laps
on either side. You can sand
and clean, but it destroys the
detail. Once complete the wing
to fuselage joint
was a little
more relieving

and went together well, along
with the rudder and tail plane.
With regard to the gun panel on
the leading edge, Eduard does
call for you to place the small
gun barrel tips from the inside
of the gun cover on the leading
edge of the wing, but these
simply do not it and need to be
placed in from the outside. I left
mine of until the end of
the build. The top
panel to cover the
cockpit was now added
and I was ready to paint.
I used Tamiya XF-82 Ocean
Grey and XF-81 RAF Green
for the camoulage and
XF-83 Medium Sea Grey
for the undersides, mixed
50/50 with Mr Colour
Levelling Thinner. Blu
Tac ‘sausages’ were used to
