Scale Aviation Modeller International – September 2019

lthough we have been
well served in all the
major scales with
Heinkel He-111 kits, it
has only been the good but long
in the tooth Revell/Monogram
kit that has been available in
the ever popular 1/48. For its
day the Revell kit was a very
nicely tooled kit with recessed
panel lines, it does however lack
some of the detailing that is
becoming the required norm for
modellers nowadays. ICM have

been producing some very nice
modern tooling’s of the Junkers
Ju-88 and Dornier Do-17 so it
made complete sense that they
produce a new kit of this ever-
popular subject. I was very keen
to get my hands on this kit and
was particularly pleased when
they produced the H-6 variant
as this ofered a wide variety of
markings options and loadouts.
In particular I had my heart set
on this rather unusual winter
scheme applied to a KG

aircraft serving in Norway
1942, armed with Torpedoes
for anti-shipping roles in the
North Sea. The ICM kit is well
appointed with a number of
parts options available on the
sprues which includes a variety
of clear parts for the nose,
upper gun turret hood and also
the gondola. As the variety of
H6 variants was proliic it is
good that ICM has done their
homework for us so once you
choose your option follow the

recommended parts placement
carefully. The breakdown of the
kit is quite modular, however,
the superb tooling of the parts
means that with care the model
its together very well with only
minor areas needing a smear
of iller to blend them in.
The interior details provided
are also very comprehensive
and allow you to model a
bomber version with a nicely
detailed bomb cage radio
equipment and defensive
