Werner Wing Decals

T

he Bell UH-1 in all it single
engine variants served
for with the US Army
for over 54 years with the last
leaving service in 2016. It is well
known for most of that time the
vast majority of Huey’s were in
a boring overall green scheme.
The latest sheet from Werner
Wings cover the operation of
the UH-1 from Vietnam to the
end of its service and though
there are a few drab schemes
the main theme on this sheet is
some of the more colourful or
elaborate schemes applied to the
type during its long service.
Even the Vietnam War
had it’s colourful aircraft and
this sheet feature quite a few
from this period which have
colourful stabilizer’s and tail
bands. After Vietnam, the
most colourful examples were
used for training with areas of
Day-Glo or as VIP transports
with some custom scheme. We
also have a selection of “Dust
Of” Ambulance examples
as well as two very diferent
camoulage schemes. The irst
used by the 1st Air Cavalry has a
similar four colour camoulage
to that seen on US tanks in the
1970s while moving to 2011 we
have an example painted in
a scheme similar to that used
by Russian Mil-24 Hinds.
Though the majority of
schemes are US Army, the US
Navy and South Vietnam Air Force

also make an appearance. We also
have one civilian example from
Air America, the CIA’s private Air
Force during the Vietnam War.

CONCLUSION
The instructions are clear
and concise while the decals
are beautifully printed on one
large sheet. In my view, this
decal sheet certainly ofers
exceptional value for money.
With so many options I am
sure any modellers who like
helicopters will struggle to
build just one or two of the
marking options on this sheet.
Out thanks to Werner Wings
for the review sample and in
the accessory section we will
be featuring a few new sets
from this manufacturer to
help detail your Bell UH-1.
As always this sheet and the
rest of the Werners Wings range
can be ordered from their web
site at http://www.wernerwings.com.

Shelf Oddity

W

e were introduced to
this manufacturer at
ModelBrno and they
supplied us with samples of their
decals and accessory ranges. What
makes this manufacturer unusual
is that they specialise in the
smaller scales of 1/144 for aircraft
and 1/350 and 1/700 for ships.
This month we have two
new decal sheets, the irst for
the Boeing F-15E and Republic
F-47D in French service.
As you would expect both
sheets are quite small but well
printed. To keep costs down
these decals do not come with
any instruction instead you
download them from the web
site. Which also gives you a
chance to view the schemes
supplied before you buy.

CONCLUSION
It is not that often that we get
to review decal sheets for 1/144
scale. Shelf Oddity should be

commended for releasing
an extensive range of decals
covering everything from
World War 2 to the Modern
day and they are not afraid
at exploring more ofbeat
subjects like post war Iranian
Thunderbolts to ever popular
subjects like the F-14 Tomcat.
To see the full range
visit http://www.shelfoddity.
com and we thank them for
supplying the samples.
