“BUY THE BEST, AND YOU’LL ONLY CRY ONCE,” is a
quote that’s often attributed to celebrated New York decorator
(and Atlanta native) Miles Redd. That sentiment seems to ring
true throughout the pages of our September issue, although
buying the best you can afford—and keeping quality top-of-
mind—might be a more accurate assessment.
This issue’s focus on sharp style begins with our cover: a
Robert Brown-designed dining room that is, in my opinion,
dressed to the nines. Formal entertaining might be consid-
ered a luxury in 2019, but it’s also indicative of the Southern
propensity for conversation—and presentation. Similarly, in
Ronda Carmen’s Entertaining at Home, the author and taste-
maker visits the Atlanta residence of Suzanne Kasler, a con-
summate hostess who recommends paying as much attention
to the food as to setting the stage for the occasion (page 21).
In this issue, we also revisit the interiors of the 2019
Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Southeastern Showhouse (page
81), in which polished, fashion-forward interiors mixed with
warm, transitional style for the ultimate blend of comfort and
luxury. If you missed visiting in person, I will tell you this was
a house that men—not just women—did not want to leave, a
testament to the way a well-designed, timeless house can truly
marry the best of both worlds.
