Home South Africa – September 2019

[DÉCOR STYLE]
While their 120-year-old Netherlands home
features dark greenish-grey walls and black
woodwork, the pair was keen on a raw
industrial look for their South African abode.
“We wanted a blank canvas,” says Boyd.
“The views from each window create the
décor. White walls and ceilings were a
no-brainer and we love the cement floors
and black steel.”
“I think our design style is best described
as individualistic comfort, where vintage and
antique sensibilities meet
modern materials and
designs,” says Godfrey.
But it’s the simple
pleasures that make this
house a home. “We love the
silence, the birdsong and
spotting a little duiker every
now and then,” adds Boyd.

The shelving unit in the
dressing room just off
the main bedroom was
designed by Godfrey and
made by his father from
square tubing; similar
ones feature in the
scullery and utility room.
