t

he beginning of the season is the
perfect time to kickstart healthy
eating and spring-clean your
wellbeing. And a good place to
start is with your liver and kidneys.
They act as the body’s filtration system,
so show them a little love with a cleanse.
It doesn’t have to be daunting either.
We asked nutritionists Liesl Dohring
and Stephanie Malouf what they would
recommend and their answers were
surprisingly simple: 10 naturally cleansing
foods you’ll find at the supermarket!

artichoke
“Steamed, baked or grilled artichokes are
chock-full of the prebiotic fibre inulin, which
binds to waste products and helps flush
them from the bowels,” Dohring says.

As well as keeping your digestive system
in good nick, artichokes can also support
liver function and the production of bile,
which helps dispose of waste from
the digestive tract.

asparagus
“Asparagus is an excellent source of inulin,
which helps feed the good bacteria living in
your digestive tract,” Dohring explains. It’s
also full of folate, vitamin C and carotenoids
to support liver detoxification and assist
the kidneys, bowel and skin when it comes
to clearing out toxins.

beetroot
“High in potassium, beetroot supports
the natural elimination of waste through
your kidneys and bladder,” Dohring says.

Give your liver and kidneys a helping hand with these
10 naturally cleansing ingredients – no liquid diet required!
