W

hat’s your favourite meal of the
day? Does this change when you’re
touring? Ours is def initely breakfast.
Nothing beats a full English cooked on
the barbecue or fr esh localeggs from the
campsite shop. We are early birds rather
than night owls, especial ly as Terry is a
landscape photog rapher and often up well
before dawn to get the best opportunities to
take pictures in perfect light.
This weekend wasn’t supposed tomajor
on breakfast, butit turned outthat w ay.
We left ourhome in Devon very early on
a Friday to exploreDorset’s World Heritage
Jurassic Coast. We realised that we weren’t
goin g to see everything in a weeke nd (the
Jurassic coastline is96 miles long) so
focused onthree places we really wanted to
visit: West Bay (the setting for ITV’s dr ama,
Broadchurch), the famousruins of Corfe

Castle (with over 1,000years of history) and
Swanage Rail way (just right for anostalgic
steamtrain ride through the wonderful
Purbeck countrysid e).
West Bay h as a large motorhome-friendly
car park right on East Beach (next to The
West Bay Hotel – no overnighting). The
iconic golden cliffs are astone’s throw away,
as is the Watch House Ca fé, location of our
first memorable breakfast enjoyed on a
sunny outdoor terrace.
A walk alon g East Beach lo oking for
fossils was amust ( the coastline covers
185 million years of geological history) and
making the steep climb tothe top of East
Cliff waswell worth the effort. The views
are spectacular. For keen walkers, the South
West Coast Path runs through West Bay
offering popular wa lks to Burton Bradstock
in the ea st and Golden Cap –the highes t+

Dorset’s Jurassi c Coast make s a tasty short break,

especi ally if you like castles, cli ffs and steam trains
